Of all the aspects involved in planning your wedding, one of the least pleasant but essential tasks is creating and establishing the budget. Although not one of the most popular tasks, wedding planning experts point out that it is one of the most important steps, often originally overlooked by weddings. Whether they don’t know the market costs or imagine they can make it, brides tend to wake up overwhelmed by the expenses.
With this article we aim to help you create a realistic and well-developed budget from the beginning, and give you some tips and tricks that will make your job easier. Therefore, here are some essential steps that will help you create a wedding budget that suits your needs and desires.
1. The basic list of expenses
To begin with, I’ve made a basic list of usual expenses when it comes to planning a wedding, actual expenses may vary depending on personal preferences, the size of the wedding and other individual factors.
- Religious and civil marriage: Marriage fees, registration documents, priest fees, etc.
- Position: Space for rent for ceremony and reception.
- Music and entertainment: DJ or training, sound, dancers or other entertainment acts.
- Bouquets and Floral Arrangements: Bridal bouquets, bridesmaids’ bouquets, floral arrangements for the ceremony and reception.
- Photographer and videographer: Professional shooting services and wedding photography services.
- Wedding dress and costumes: The costs for purchasing the wedding dress and the groom’s and bridesmaids’ costumes.
- Wedding cake: Costs for wedding cake or other desserts.
- Invitations and stationery: Invitations and other stationery.
- Transportation and accommodation (if applicable) the costs of transporting the spouses and guests between the places of the ceremony and the reception, and the accommodation of guests coming from outside the locality.
- Gifts for godfather and guests: Gifts for godparents, wedding gifts for guests.
- Others: Any other additional expenses such as hair and makeup, jewelry, even parking fees
- Unexpected expenses: Insurance for unexpected events or wedding cancellation.
2. Set priorities
Start by discussing your priorities in terms of marriage with your partner. Decide what the essential elements are for you, such as location, photographer, food and drinks, and allocate a larger portion of the budget depending on what is most important to you.
Our advice:
- Choose an elegant location, which does not require major changes or extravagant arrangements, but perhaps just floral arrangements that fit your vision. Also, when choosing the location, make sure it offers a delicious menu to complete the experience.
- Invest in a professional photographer and videographer to capture the most beautiful moments of your wedding. This is a very important investment, because, in addition to the memories you will carry in your soul, photos and videos will be the only tangible memories that you will be able to admire over the years.
- Choosing a quality DJ or band is also a crucial investment. After all, your wedding is a party, a moment where you celebrate your love, where your guests will remember how much they danced and how much fun they had, not other insignificant details.
3. Research and comparison
Do thorough research into the costs associated with different aspects of the wedding, such as location, food, drinks, wedding dress, costumes, flowers, music and photography. Compare the prices and services offered by different providers to ensure you get the best value for money
4. Financial analysis
Consider your income and savings available for marriage. Set a total amount you are willing to spend and divide it according to your previously established priorities.
Equally important is whether other people will contribute to the wedding budget (parents, noses, close friends, etc.) and what amount they can help you with.
5. BUDGET FORECAST BELIEVE THE NUMBER OF INVITATIONS
To start estimating your budget, consider the number of guests. Start by making a guest list, then consider the essential people who will definitely be present on your special day. For example, if you’re considering a guest list of 100 and you’re sure there won’t be 80 missing, you can start making an estimate from those 80 people. You need to keep in mind that each region of the country may have different budgets for gifts, which can vary from urban to rural. It’s helpful to find out what the average gift is at weddings in the location where you’ll be hosting the event. With an average donation of 100 euros and 80 people, a budget of 8000 euros can be estimated. All expenses that exceed this budget should be considered as expenses that you will not recover. If you are within this budget and the amount you get from gifts is more, the difference will be your profit.
6. Publish a reserve fund
Maintaining a background is a smart strategy in planning your wedding. Despite efforts to anticipate all expenses and have a well-defined plan, there are unexpected events that can occur during the course. Therefore, it is essential to allocate a certain amount of money for such circumstances. This reserved amount can cover various situations, such as price or product fluctuations, last-minute changes in event planning, or the need to make budget adjustments during the wedding planning process.
7. Monitoring and updating
Constantly monitoring and updating your budget is an essential practice in the wedding planning process. It’s important to track your expenses carefully as you progress through your event planning and update your budget as changes occur. An effective way to track your budget is to keep a detailed record of all your expenses. Record every payment you make and ensure it meets your budgeted amounts. This will give you a clear picture of how the money is being spent and allow you to identify any deviations or costs.
8. Stick to your budget
It is important to be disciplined and stick to your budget throughout the entire wedding planning process. There is no need to allocate money for things you don’t really want.
Sometimes it happens that someone in the family, nose or friend insists on certain details, preferences or traditions that do not correspond to your wishes and preferences. In these situations it is not advisable to allocate money for these aspects if it affects your budget or provides you with the calculations made. If they insist and really want their stuff, you can suggest they pay for it.
Avoid the temptation to spend more than you plan to and make wise financial decisions to ensure you stay within your budget.
