How do we «decorate» the room?! – Wedding planner Victorita Axinescu

I am very lucky because I have not encountered this problem. My clients are increasingly more understanding, more attentive and polite (visually and in weddings), which is why I rarely talk about room decor as a problem in itself. Sometimes we talk about flowers, logistics, maybe concepts. But I have had from the beginning of my adventure in organizing a feeling of revulsion at the idea of ​​adorning/decorating an (event) room.

As wonderful as my clients are, it still happens that an idea is found – an article in a glossy magazine (online, but still glossy), a kind advice from the restaurateur, the insistence of possible mothers or simply a moment of faint inspiration, and we also come to these discussions with «what do we do with the room». It has been written, and very well, on the subject. I mean, I probably won’t say anything new. I just want to highlight some aspects to take into consideration when thinking about a wedding and how “decorations” influence the general perception of an event.

First of all you need to think about whether a room needs to be furnished or not. My answer will always be no, at least when it comes to the places that I like and that I highly recommend. One place I would say you could bring a little extra, in terms of decor, would be the wedding tent (any drapes and chandeliers would have). Let’s say. Although, if you have chosen a wedding tent, you must like the simplest things, starting with the host.

Second, I know you think about it all the time What will the invitations say?. If you don’t have covers on the chairs or even on the floor-facing table, if you don’t have architectural lights or balloon machine, if there isn’t an arch at the entrance, one or the other. truth is that most guests don’t give two lei about the «decorations» of the room. Neither on the tulle of the scales, nor on the red carpet at the entrance. Alone. You will receive nothing extra (in the envelope) for the «extraordinary» decorations and nothing less for the lack of them.

What really matters is the overall image. The atmosphere you can create. And here we talk, most of the time, about beautiful things, about the skill of a decorator or an event planner to enhance a salon. Or to hide certain defects. The opinion of an event designer can weigh a lot. You just don’t find these skilled decorators on every street. And it doesn’t come cheap. Well, to scare you to death, it costs enormously. And since you don’t want to pay the expert in the furniture problem, you can resort to related services. Ask the Wedding Planner to help you with ideas. Even if Wedding Planner does not have the school of architects in its portfolio (in this case, at least). Or the florist. Who create fine bouquets, but must not have «arrangement» ideas. And in a sense you are dissatisfied, because your desire to decorate the room, initially induced by a wedding industry to produce wedding decorations, most often of dubious quality, remains unsatisfied. You have the impression that something is missing. Most of the time, anything you could bring into a room, be it a restaurant or a ballroom, would be extra.

And here we come to the final side, with the most painful scenario. You don’t like the room you chose. You chose it because it had a convenient menu, because it was what someone recommended, because you had to thank ten family members or because you were panicking. Or for everyone and others. Whether you say Franci or keep it to yourself, the result is the same. You will let this attitude be reversed to anyone you think can help you And I don’t. You will be shocked when the florist tells you that the much desired arrangements do not match the style of the room. You will want to recreate an image that has nothing to do with the restaurant you have chosen. And from here the circus begins. Which faces of the table do we choose? Which chairs are suitable and how do we cover the walls with flowers, tulle, garlands of lights and other crazy things?

Costs are customized. And you will pay them Because the menu cost 20 or 50 lei less. And the result will never be as expected. I’m not saying the case where you manage to talk to a yesman of any agency, who fills you with a package and an offer to your expectations, without having the patience or interest to tell you that it makes no sense and that it does not deserve the financial effort to prepare the room with you.

Ok, in the happy event that you have chosen to collaborate with a Wedding Planner, he will distance you from this experience. And you won’t know how to thank them. Or you will finally appreciate the result decent compared to the disaster that could have occurred. It matters less. It would only be important if we understood in time why it is good to choose a room to feel at ease from the first contact. In order not to live in the fantasy of «decorations» and makeup that suck, excuse the expression.

And finally, yes, of course, beautiful things can be done with less beautiful places under construction. But for this you need a little adjustment of claims, you need to listen to the man who is able to give you honest advice and trust him that he wants to do well. And give him credit that he speaks with conviction and experience when he says something.
